Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Cosmetic eyelid surgery also known as blepharoplasty, aims to soften the effects of aging, giving patients a more youthful, less tired look.

Blepharoplasty surgery is suitable for those who have excess eyelid tissue, creating ‘hooding’ of the upper eyelid or have poor skin tone and quality of the lower eyelid, giving the eyes a tired look. The excess upper eyelid skin, apart from cosmetic concerns, may also obstruct the peripheral field of vision, giving this operation an additional functional benefit. It is performed as a day case under local anaesthesia, the scar heals almost imperceptibly and is hidden in the natural eyelid creases.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty (not currently offered), is a much more involved procedure performed under general anaesthetic. It aims to rejuvenating the eyelid, by tightening the skin and remove some of the excess protruding deep fat (causing ‘bags’). It has a longer down time than upper blepharoplasty, requires an overnight stay in hospital with the scar is hidden under the lid margin and in the natural eye creases.
