Prominent ear correction (otoplasty)

Prominent ear correction surgery, also known as otoplasty or pinnaplasty, aims to improve the position and shape of protruding ears.

Otoplasty, also referred to as pinnaplasty, is a surgical procedure used to improve the position and shape of ears. This form of aesthetic ear surgery is suitable for individuals who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their ears, which may be protruding or misshapen. Otoplasty, is not in itself a functional operation and it will not improve or change your hearing.

Our genes largely dictate the shape and size of our ears and they vary enormously between individuals, as well as between the two sides. Aesthetically, when we look at a human face, the ‘best’ ears are the ones that the eye ignores. So, when it comes to ears, ordinary is ‘best’. In situations, however, when the ears appear to be particularly prominent or when the shape looks decidedly out of the ordinary, the individual may become self-conscious.

Although this procedure may not have a functional role, it potentially has considerable psychological benefits, improving self-esteem and social confidence.
